The paper of Professor Constantin Apostol, “Oficializarea stilului pictural bizantin în iconografia creştină” (Formalisation of the Byzantine Pictorial Style in Christian Iconography), represents an ample reflection on the meaning and pregnancy of the Byzantine iconographic study. As a product of the Christian life and experience, the icon developed in a liturgical space as an inner necessity of the early Christians, who wanted to come closer to God not just by a furtive sharing, but also by a visual communication.
In his study, the Professor managed to analyse these features of the Christian life ever since the persecutions and to the most elaborate iconographic forms of the Byzantine painting.
